Celebrating the Feast of St. Ursula

Posted 9/30/2020

In these days of COVID-19 celebrating with members of the Ursuline Community and Associates has been quite the challenge.

Meeting with the sisters at the Ursuline Center was the biggest obstacle. With the Governor’s recent announcement for opening nursing homes to inside visitation in mid-October, it was decided to host a morning prayer service at the Center for the residents that would include celebrating St. Ursula, the annual renewal of commitment, missioning and the closing of the 165th anniversary of Foundation Day. A 6-minute video entitled “The Story Behind the Badge – St. Ursula” will be shone. This can be found on

Moving the celebration from Sunday, October 18 to the actual feast day of October 21, a short prayer service will be held in the Dining Room so that social distancing can be maintained for the residents. The prayer will incorporate recognition of all the above mentioned rituals that usually are packed into a Sunday liturgy and dinner. This will occur at 10:30 a.m.

Since many Sisters are learning to use ZOOM, the same prayer service will be held on ZOOM at 1:30 p.m. Associates will be invited and the hope is that many of the sisters and associates can join the ZOOM experience. This will be the first time that ZOOM will become a mode of connecting with others normally present for the feast day celebration. This is not the ideal situation but at least some will be able to participate and apologies in advance to those we cannot reach.
The prayer service and commitment cards will be made available to all our members and associates.
