Stamp Collections for "Sister Wishes"

Posted 3/25/2018

For many years, the Ursuline Sisters have been collecting postage stamps.

Stamp Collections for “Sister Wishes”

Recently, we’ve received stamp collections from three local parishes and friends in six states to add to our own stamps collected.

What type of stamps do we collect? The stamps must be an attached stamp; a stamp printed on an envelope will not be accepted. Foreign stamps are more valuable, as they earn double the amount.

During the week of snowstorms this past February, a few Sisters and Associates gathered at the Ursuline Center for “Stamp Action,” a time to trim the stamps we’ve collected. The trimmers had fun and fellowship, and even had cookies to enjoy and baggies of stamps to take home to cut.

When a large number of stamps have been collected and trimmed, they are sold to a dealer who pays us for each pound of stamps. Since Sr. Regina Smith began coordinating the stamp collection in 2014, the Ursuline Center has earned $1,265 in total for the stamps sold to the dealer. We have purchased a card table, chairs, and helped purchase benches for the outdoors with the earnings.

The Ursuline Sisters would appreciate any stamps you may have. Stamps may be dropped off at the Ursuline Center or Ursuline Convent Offices.

If you’d like to join in the fun of trimming stamps, or have questions about our stamp collection, please contact Sr. Regina or Sr. Maria Goretti Van Ausdale at 419-536-3535.
